The Space

renovation

Apr 13, 2025

In the middle of last week I had a breakfast meeting for work near Tower Hill in London. Before I left I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and I was met by the most stunning interior. I took a photo above as inspo!

Last week, some building work started on my house. As I've been saying to friends and loved ones the reality is that my family unit has shifted from being two adults and two children to consisting of four adults. A house which works for the former won't necessarily fit the latter. Think about it for a minute  we need a range of work spaces, study spaces, sleeping spaces, and living spaces so that we don't get on top of one another and are able to live well together, as adults.

So that is the reason for the renovation of my physical space.

I also started seeing a therapist again  its been a few years since I finished with my last therapist. Something happened which triggered reminders of my car accident from 28 years ago and I knew I had to take the advice which I give to anyone who asks me for my thoughts when they are facing a challenge which is to get support.

I walk to a park to have my therapy sessions. Might seem strange but in the spring/summer when it isn't raining I like sitting outside in nature when I'm having these conversations. The environment adds to it feeling very restorative. And that to me feels like renovation — internal renovation, of me!

I have gone a little bit personal in this weeks 'The Space' haven't I?

I am a firm believer that it is important to share things like this because I don't simply want to encourage others do these things  take full advantage of a range of support mechanisms available when experiencing a challenge. I want to role model it for others. And that is a very conscious decision on my part.

Beyond internal restoration, it is part of my renovation and something I am very happy to share what is happening to me to encourage others to do the same and get all the help that is needed in order to be able to keep flourishing and thriving.

See the space we live in, the space we occupy, the space our minds are in are all different and all need love, care, and nourishment of different kinds.

You will know what your needs, wants, and desires are best in regards to how you renovate yourself inside out.

If I may, this week I encourage you to reflect on the topic of renovation. And to help that let me share the dictionary definition — which I found very helpful!

renovation: to repair and improve something

You may need to renovate in stages, doing the most essential work first

What will you do to renovate yourself?

How will you be to enable little bits of internal — and external — restoration?

Have a great week.

All my best,

Saiyyidah
