wisdom & artistic creativity

Dec 08, 2024

I spent Monday and Tuesday delivering some coaching skills training in Athens, Greece. According to Google maps the hotel I was staying in was a 30 minute walk away from the ParthenonI didn't have time to test this and will no doubt have to go back for another visit!

As I looked out from the rooftop restaurant at breakfast and later at dinner I could see the architectural marvel for what the Parthenon truly symbolizes. I see knowledge, beauty, and confidence in place and history and artistic excellence. It reminded me of some of the historic monuments I have seen in Egypt.

The image  above is of the Parthenon taken by Saiyyidah Zaidi at night in early December 2024

Looking out to the Parthenon made me reflect on my own history and culture and where I am now. My colleagues and I also felt a sense of release and peace that the the talks for the Parthenon Marbles (previously known as Elgin Marbles) were closer to being returned to Greece.

Looking at the majesty of the architecture created an invitation to consider the perseverance and hard work that took to construct the monument.

Perseverance and persistence...

Sometimes when we are in December and it is a busy time with work, festive activities, and planning for a break we are drawn to persevering and being persistent just to get through all the things that need to get done.

Remember, the construction of the Parthenon exemplifies resilience and teamwork—qualities essential for personal growth— no one can do it alone.

The Parthenon's artistic details remind us of the importance of aesthetics and creativity, urging us to explore and appreciate beauty in our own environments and endeavors. It might also evoke a sense of belonging and purpose.

Reflecting on some of these elements provides the opportunity for us to consider our own journey of self-improvement, leadership, and civic engagement, with the ultimate aim of expanding our own personal and professional development.

Here is where I went to...

Let’s embark on a reflective journey that helps to tap into wisdom, strength, and artistic excellence.

First up, let’s think about wisdom. Take a moment to reflect on a challenging situation from your past—maybe a tough decision you had to make. Now, recall the details of that particular experience.

What did you learn from that moment?

How did you go through the decision-making process?

What did you learn about yourself and when you tap into your inner wisdom?

By remembering and reflecting on what you went through, you’ start to recognize some valuable lessons available to you that shape the way you see things today.

Now, let’s explore your artistic side.

This could be anything—painting, writing, music, or even cooking!

Find a time when you expressed yourself creatively.... no matter how loosely...

What inspired you to create?

How did the creative process feel?

—What emotion did it evoke?

Spend a couple of minutes in that reflective space. No need to write anything down, although I do invite you to that if you wish.

You might be surprised at the talents or skills you’ve discovered through your artistic endeavors.

Once you’ve reflected on both the elements of wisdom and artistic creativity I invite you to consider what the common themes are.

What stands out?

By starting to connect the dots, you can find qualities you may wish to nurture further.

These qualities or ideas may lead you to something new that you want to bring into your life.

What might that be?

I always find December to be a time of renewal, perhaps because it is my birth month and the end of the year.... what might you be renewing, and letting go of, as we go into the next year? I suspect I'll be writing about that next week!

Have a great week,
Saiyyidah
